24th May! A day in which all of us will definitely not forget in this lifetime. The death of George Floyd. As far as many of us have known, the discrimination towards the blacks has been an ongoing problem faced by America and it is yet to be overcome from till this very day. Movies and Netflix shows based on true stories can justify this ongoing problem. One example would be the movie “Hidden figures” in which three black women whom worked at NASA share their story of living in the discriminated society at that time. However, in present day, people in America are protesting for the equal rights that the blacks should be offered years ago. Thus, to ensure this right is given, it is each and everyone’s responsibility to raise awareness and try every way to help this group of people achieve the justice they deserve. Therefore, in this article I am going to future raise awareness and suggest ways in which we can help these group of people.
Ahmaud Arbery, Kenneth Ross and Breonna Taylor were innocent people whom lost their lives to the very injustice George Floyd and many others have lost. This has made it such that the black community is afraid to step out of their houses knowing that they might not be able to come back again. However, for the past two weeks protest has been ongoing all around the world. Some countries would be Australia, Poland and Germany. People have been raising awareness by signing petitions, donating and even posting on social media. Even though, there has been a massive support to raise awareness and contribute, it has resulted to the police to release tear-gas, a gas which causes irritation to the eyes to disperse massive crowds. In addition, some policemen have also been constantly attacking journalists and reporters making it extremely unsafe for them to do their job. From this ongoing protest, it is extremely important to state and elaborate on some facts to ensure each and every one of us are on the same page to help the victims affected.
Firstly, not all policemen are horrible people. No doubt there has been more than a handful of policemen that have been portraying wrongful actions, there are some whom are genuinely gracious and respectful especially towards the black community. In fact, some of those officers are part of the black community but it is their duty and order to do their jobs in which is to protect people and ensure that they are safe and not causing riots. Nevertheless, it is extremely wrong to throw tear-gas into the crowd just to ensure that the crowd will disperse after all most of them are protesting peacefully. It is harming citizens by causing irritation to the eyes. Furthermore, attacking of reporters and journalist is absolutely unacceptable, these group of people are also doing their jobs to keep citizens and the world informed about the latest news and updates on the ongoing protest. Thus, we should be extremely grateful to all the brave reporters, journalist and even the cameramen.
We being the citizens from another country and watching each and every news, it is vital for us to also play a part to help one another during this crisis. The least we could do is to raise awareness to provide support towards this injustice and to ensure that it will never happen again in the future. Therefore, reposting chains, signing petitions and also donating to these petitions will be beneficial. Reposting of chain stories allows people to raise awareness and be more familiar towards the issue being faced. Signing and donating to the petitions would be a much greater contribution to stopping this injustice for good.
“We are the world, we are the children, we are the once who will make a better day so let’s start giving”, goes the famous Michael Jackson song, we are the world. It is our choice to fight for a better future so that our future generations will never have to go through such discrimination and fear like we are going through right now. Thus, we all need to be united as one and strong to fight for the justice that the black community deserves at this point of time. Therefore, start donating, signing all the petitions and raising awareness for the betterment!
