Gender stereotype is defined as particular actions or activities that are associated to a particular gender. This is used very frequently in people’s daily lives whether it is at home or at work. In the past the stereotypes were that men are the soul breadwinners of the family while the women stay at home and take care of the family and help in the reproduction of offspring. Gender stereotypes were so heavily influential to the fact that being born as girl was a disgrace to some races such as the Indians. This was due to the fact that girls are unable to carry the family name and were considered weak in comparison to men. Thus, women are often gotten married to men whom is much older once attending puberty. This tradition still on goes in certain third world countries such as India, Bangladesh and Iran.
In the past and even in the present day there are many fields in the working industry that are considered the male and female dominating industry. For the men dominating industries some jobs would be pilot, engineering and army. Whereas, in the female dominating industries some jobs are nursing, secretary and nail artist. Even though, these careers are still dominant by the two genders there have been both genders joining the opposite gender’s dominant careers and they are able to shine and earn a living. The current world is slowly opening up to not having any gender dominant Industries. One example would be when Halimah Yacob became the first President of Singapore in 2017 to present day.
Even though, the gender stereotypes across both genders have been massively reduced throughout the years, with extra efforts placed by each and every one this can be erased completely. Parents of children that wish to pursue in a field that is dominated by the opposite gender can encourage them to do it. Not only will they shine in that field they will also be an influence to younger generations. Advocators that go to schools, colleges and universities can promote this. Lastly, refrain from discouraging anyone using gender stereotypes as with high amounts of stereotypes said by people to a significant person it can cause someone to go to the extreme of even ending their life. “Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.”, said by Rudyard Kipling. Therefore, always ensure of thinking twice to what you are about to share towards a specific gender.
